In Cuenca, Ecuador's third largest city, you can stroll the well-preserved colonial streets, trek through undulating countryside, and visit the nearby Incan ruins of Ingapirca, the northernmost best preserved precolonial ruins of the Inca Empire.
Cuenca has been declared by UNESCO a World Cultural Heritage Site. In the colonial city, markets and craft shops display embroidered articles of clothing, tapestries, ceramics, jewelry and delicately fashioned Panama hats.
