Hogar Infantil No. 3
Centro "Dias Mejores"

About the institution

Centro “Dias Mejores” has been working since 2005 with a group of young psychologists aiming to help children and teenagers as well as families in risk situations. The centre focuses its objectives in fighting against psychosocial problems and do follow up of children who have been helped in other centres without the proper follow up.

Most of the work is done in poor communities nearby the city in need of psychological, pedagogic and medical help.

Their biggest achievements have been in the areas of suicide prevention and children protection

Description of the work
Volunteers will go together with a representative of centre Dias Mejores to schools around the city and talk to groups of children to know what are the problems they are facing and how can the centre help.
In other schools, where there have been visits already, the work consists in organizing games, workshops, field trips, puppet shows, videos, etc.

Artistic activities such as painting or modelling clay are at the top of the children preferences for recreation.

Keep in mind

In order to perform your work properly, you should have experience organizing recreational activities and work with groups of children.
It is not a must, however, psychologists or psychology students would be a great help.
The field trips in most cases include visits to swimming pools, therefore, you would need to be there supervising the children or swimming.
Due to the nature of the work, you need to have commitment to your tasks, remember that you will be a helping hand and a support for these children and teenagers.

Time: Eight Week Minimum time requirement.

The volunteer will be able to choose his/her own schedule, but most of the work is done in the mornings.

Board and Lodging: None

Costs: Around $5 a week to support the centre and buy materials
