CDI "Las Ardillitas"Children & Youth Volunteering (3 programs)

CDI "Las Ardillitas"

About the institution
CDI (Centro de Desarrollo Integral or Integral Development Center) “Las Ardillitas” is a daycare institution connected to many others CDIs in the city, its main purpose is to allow mothers go to work while their children are being taken care of in the centre; it helps people in difficult economic situations. The children ages ranges from 0-6 years old. Despite the lack of resources, especially didactic material, the institution has managed to create a nice environment for the children to feel happy and have something to do. CDI “Las Ardillitas” is located in “Bosque de Monay” area, about 20 minutes away from the city centre.

Description of the work
The volunteers will be asked to help in the daily chores, like cleaning, helping feed the children, teaching them songs, teaching about hygiene and other issues. Sports, recreation and outdoor activities are a major part of the job. The volunteer will have the chance to interact with the kids by organizing games, manual activities and other things to keep them busy. Initiative is a major part of the work. The schedule is very flexible and the volunteer will be able to realize when he/she is needed the most, therefore, the volunteers will have the chance to make the most of their time. Also bear in mind that the centre counts with limited resources, so your initiative to improvise and face adverse situations is a key factor. If possible, it would be a great help if the volunteers brought some materials for the children to work with, it could be inexpensive and it will help a lot to get the job done and give the children more alternatives to do things, this material can be bought at very low prices in the city.

Keep in mind
It is better if you have experience with working with groups of children (However, it’s not a must). You need to be creative, responsible and dedicated to your tasks and like to work in a team.
